My first visit is coming, where should we meet?
There are two “normal”
places for the meeting to occur.
If a neutral location is chosen out of geographic necessity or personal preference a multitude of issues regarding
intimate boundaries will automatically be eliminated. For people who are more
tentative or private in nature a neutral location can provide a buffer which may facilitate the meeting actually taking place
rather than postponing it until everyone feels more connected through letters and phone calls.
If it has been
decided that the first meeting will take place in a home, then a few other decisions will need to be made.
- Whose home? Which party will be the host?
- Will the meeting last days or hours?
- Will the visiting party stay overnight in the home, or at a nearby hotel?
- How do you broach some topics such as dietary preferences, smoking or drinking?
Openly communicating about these topics prior to the meeting can eliminate some very awkward moments when you are sharing
personal space.
There is only one
opportunity for a first face to face impression. Working with your reunion coach
can make the difference between stumbling through the experience with a feeling of looming regret in the shadows and moving
into the experience with confidence and a sense of eager anticipation that comes with knowing you are as prepared as possible. Also, when you take the time to prepare yourself adequately your thoughtfulness, which
is sure to be part of your preparations, will be noticed and the experience will be full and rich in many ways.
